Kraft Foods worldwide is committed to community responsibility: Fighting hunger. Improving education. Supporting the arts. Involved in environmental activities.
As one of the world's largest food companies, we believe we have the responsibility to help those in need of assistance. Each year, Kraft Foods worldwide, including North America, contributes approximately U.S.$14 million to the communities and countries that need it most, feeding hungry children and adults, educating and sheltering at risk children, and bringing dance and the arts to the world.
Other Philip Morris family companies fund similar efforts bringing our total contribution to more than U.S.$875 million over the past decade.
Over the past year, Kraft Foods International's charitable programs have been expanding. Last year, we supported programs to feed the hungry -- our #1 philanthropic focus -- in 20 countries around the world.
We enabled the Cheltenham Open Door facility in the United Kingdom to offer more hot meals to the homeless and the Kiwanis Clubs in Lithuania to distribute food packages to families at risk during the cold winter months.
In Australia, our purchase of ten emergency feeding trailers are now helping the Red Cross aid victims of natural disasters. Our employees in Turkey, after tending to their own families, got to work helping others in their community after last year's earthquake. And, our goals for the future are even greater. extending our French Food Bank contributions with refrigerated trucks to enable needy recipients to enjoy fresh, nutritious produce.
